Dr. Cedric Mitsui and his team have been providing quality optometric and eyewear services to Hilo for over 20 years!   In addition to managing your medical eye care, Big Island Vision Center is also deeply committed to community outreach.  Big Island Vision Center has donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Essilor foundation, and the Scottish Rite Masons.  Big Island Vision Center has also participated with local Lions and Rotary clubs, to provide vision screenings since 1998, and has also donated to Lion’s Club International. We have also proudly donated over $25,000 in academic scholarships and free glasses since 1990.   


CEDRIC H. MITSUI, O.D.

 

Dr. Mitsui received his optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley.  He has served as an adjunct faculty member at the College of Optometry of several university campuses including the State University of New York and Pacific University.  Since 1990, Dr. Mitsui has been a member of the American Optometry Association (AOA), Hawai'i Optometry Association (HOA), and also served as a past President of the HOA. 

He is among 58 optometrists in the United States who have received the 2017 AOA Continuing Optometric Recognition Award.

 


Malia Ushijima – Insurance Manager

Malia has been with our office for 8 years.  She graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a BA in Biology.

She currently processes all of our office’s insurance claims and performs the optometric pretest and helps patients order glasses and contact lenses. 

Malia has been very active in the community.  She served as the Charter president for the Mauna Kea Club Branch and the Mauna Kea Lion’s Club.  She served as the District 50 Region 7 Sight Coordinator, helping train Lions to perform vision screening.  She has received an international president medal and has spoken at the USA Canada Lion’s Leadership Forum in Anchorage, Alaska.  She has also received numerous other awards from District 50.
